IT, Proxmox & Telco Engineering — Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands brings its own IT challenges: geographic dispersion, evolving submarine cable connectivity, and a small but rapidly digitalising economy. Netcraft has supported Solomons-based telcos, ISPs and government departments for years from our Fiji and Adelaide offices.

What we deliver in the Solomons

Honiara-based corporate and government customers, plus telcos and ISPs operating across the wider Solomon Islands, rely on us for Proxmox infrastructure builds, Linux engineering, ISP billing and 24×7 incident response.

  • Proxmox VE clusters with on-island data residency for regulated workloads.
  • Linux engineering across DNS, mail, web, database and authentication services.
  • ISP billing and provisioning via our Tarka platform, including RADIUS, NetFlow accounting and customer self-service.
  • USSD-based mobile services for banking and customer engagement, leveraging the high feature-phone share of Solomons subscribers.
  • Service-provider networking — BGP, MPLS, BRAS/BNG and traffic analytics tuned for Coral Sea Cable and Southern Cross connectivity.
  • Disaster recovery designs that account for cyclone, undersea-cable and regional connectivity risk.

Solomons connectivity and how it shapes design

The Coral Sea Cable System brought Honiara major connectivity uplift, but coverage across the wider archipelago still relies on a mix of microwave, satellite and limited fibre. We design assuming heterogeneous connectivity, where sites may need to operate independently for hours or days at a time and re-sync when the WAN comes back.

This is the same engineering discipline we apply across the Pacific generally, with a Solomons-specific bias toward simpler, lower-power, lower-thermal-load hardware that survives 24/7 in tropical conditions without elaborate cooling.

Working remotely from Suva and Adelaide

Our Fiji branch is the operational hub for Solomons engagements, with Adelaide providing engineering depth and 24×7 escalation. Engineers fly into Honiara for installs, major upgrades and audits; ongoing operations are remote, and our customers see no functional difference between that and a local team — except faster ticket turnaround during cyclone season because we operate from outside the impact zone.

Sectors we serve in Solomon Islands

  • Telecommunications and ISPs
  • Banking and financial services
  • National government departments
  • Education and training providers
  • Trading houses and logistics
  • Marine, fisheries and tourism

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a Solomon Islands office?

Not a physical office. We deliver to the Solomons from our Suva (Fiji) and Adelaide offices, flying engineers in for site work and operating remotely for everything else.

Can we keep our data in-country?

Yes. We design Proxmox clusters that physically reside in the Solomons for customers with data-sovereignty requirements, and pair them with appropriate cross-border DR replicas.

Are you experienced with Coral Sea Cable connectivity?

Yes. Our network designs and BGP work explicitly account for the Coral Sea Cable System, the legacy satellite paths it complemented, and cross-Pacific peering decisions that came with the upgrade.

How quickly can you get an engineer to Honiara?

Typical lead time is 2–5 working days for non-emergency travel, and 24–48 hours for incident response, subject to flight availability. For 24×7 customers we coordinate via our Fiji team to keep response time low.

Can you support sites outside Honiara?

Yes — Auki, Gizo, Munda and remote Provincial sites are within our experience. Designs for these locations emphasise local autonomy and minimal dependence on the central WAN.
